Telecommunications company, LIME, has announced a $2.99 call rate for prepaid mobile customers making calls to any network, effective at midnight.

In making the announcement this morning, LIME’s CEO Garfield Sinclair said the rate also applies to calls made from the LIME network to anywhere in the United States and Canada and to UK landlines.

He said the $2.99 per minute rate will be billed on a per second basis.

To activate the new rates for the Talk EZ plan persons must dial *123*1#

Previously LIME's rates were $2.99 to prepaid calls on the network and $6.99 to calls off the network.

Postpaid customers paid $1.99 for on network calls and $6.99 for off network calls.

Sinclair says the historic new rate was made possible by the $1.10 new mobile termination rate announced by the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) last week.

The OUR also ruled that call charges be calculated through per-second billing.

Sinclair said the per second billing will deliver more savings to LIME’s customers.

AND he's hoping that the low call rate will also encourage customers of other networks to switch to what he has described as the real value network.
