Jamaica's 2014 FIFA World Cup dreams took another hit Friday night as the Reggae Boyz were beaten 1-2 by the USA in their CONCACAF final round World Cup qualifier inside the National Stadium.

The Americans took the lead through Jozy Altidore in the 30th minute before Jermaine Beckford leveled for Jamaica in the 88th minute.

However, it was heartbreak for the Jamaicans as Bradley Evans made the most of a gift of a chance to win the game for the USA in injury time.

Altidore got things started, ghosting between two Jamaican defenders to head powerfully beyond a helpless Donavan Ricketts in the Jamaican goal, after 29 minutes had gone on the clock.

Both teams traded chances, with Rodolph Austin hitting the post after being played through on goal and the excellent Jermaine Johnson volleyed over from the top of the box, as the Jamaicans pressed for an equaliser.

Parity was earned when Beckford rose highest to head a deep left-sided freekick to the right of Tim Howard in the USA's goal, but the joy was short-lived.

Evans, standing at the top of Jamaica's six-yard box, must have been shocked to see the ball at his feet after a corner kick.

He would have been even more surprised when the tackle did not come from the Jamaican defence, leaving him with all the time in the world to turn and shoot beyond poor Ricketts in Jamaica's goal.

The result left the Jamaicans rooted at the bottom of the six-team group on two points, while the USA climbed to seven points and on top of the standings, pending the results of the other games in the round, which sees Costa Rica hosting Honduras and Panama welcoming Mexico.
