The South East Regional Health Authority has called an emergency meeting for today after allegations that patients at the St Jago Health Centre in Spanish Town, St Catherine, are being charged $20 to access the bathroom.

The chairman of the Authority, Lyttleton Shirley, also says he has ordered an immediate investigation into what he calls the unfortunate revelation.

According to Shirley, under no circumstances should patients be charged to use bathroom facilities at Government hospitals.

He has also sought to assure the public that the matter will be dealt with urgently.

Shirley says if the practice is proven to be true, he would give immediate instruction for it to stop.

Shirley is encouraging patients to report any incident of charges to use bathroom facilities at public hospitals.
