Bribery trial involving Forbes, Bicknell and Vaz on today

Published:Tuesday | June 11, 2013 | 9:41 AM

The bribery trial involving Senior Superintendent of Police James Forbes and businessman Bruce Bicknell is expected to start today.

Even though prosecutors said they were ready to proceed with the case in April, the matter was pushed back to allow Senior Resident Magistrate Lorna Shelly Williams time to clear other cases.

Bicknell and Forbes are charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice arising from an incident in Kingston last April when the businessman was stopped by a traffic cop.

It is alleged that the businessman attempted to bribe  Sergeant Jubert Llewellyn after being issued a speeding ticket and that the high-ranking officer and West Portland Member of Parliament Daryl Vaz made attempts to have Bicknell absolved.

Vaz, who is facing corruption charges, is to go on trial at a later date.
