The farmers in the St Catherine community of Nightingale Grove Farms are appealing to the authorities for help, this follows the latest in a series of farm thefts over the past year.

In the worst incident to date, St Catherine farmer Wadeton Reynolds lost 32 sheep and 18 goats last night after about eight men held up his caretaker, robbed him of the keys to the farm and then slaughtered his animals.

The thieves left behind the entrails of the animals.

Reynolds said some of the goats were expecting kids.

He has estimated his total loss at $2 million.

The farmer said he received a call around 3 a.m. that there was something suspicious on his farm and when he arrived, he was greeted by the terrible scene.

Residents say over the past year they have been frustrated by the number of farm thefts and they want more police intervention.
