Bermuda premier urges changes to Human Rights Act

Published:Friday | June 14, 2013 | 6:33 PM

Bermuda’s Premier Craig Cannonier has urged fellow parliamentarians to approve changes to Bermuda's Human Rights Act which bans the discrimination of people because of their sexual orientation.

The changes would also prohibit age discrimination in all areas except the workplace.

The Premier says the amendment to prohibit discrimination on the basis of one’s sexual orientation is not about endorsing any kind of lifestyle but about protecting fellow citizens from mistreatment by others.

According to Cannonier, Bermuda cannot continue to passively allow discrimination in any form to continue.

Government MPs are said to be supporting the proposals.
