TRACK & FIELD: 13-member squad for World University Games

An 11-member track and field team will represent Jamaica at the 2013 World University Games in Russia from July 6-17.



Twenty-seven sports will be contested, but Jamaica will only take part in track and field because of financial constraint.



The local association was hoping to compete in badminton and table tennis but had to shelve its plans.



It is expected that more over 13,500 University athletes from over 170 countries will participate in 13 mandatory and 14 optional sports, making the 2013 Games the biggest ever in the history of the event.



The delegation from Jamaica is scheduled to depart on July 3.



Danielle Dowie, Danielle Williams, Shaneika Thomas and Anastasia Leroy are the female members of the squad.



The male team comprises – Deuce Carter, Julian Forte, Nicholas Watson, Rasheed Dwyer, Raymond Brown, Traves Smikle and Nicholas Maitland.
