ATHLETICS: World Championship trials kick off today at the Stadium

The four-day National Senior Championship, to select Jamaica’s team to this summer’s World Championship in Russia, starts this morning at 9:30 at the National Stadium.

The championship will be missing two of the country’s top athletes through different reasons.

World 100-metre champion Yohan Blake pulled out on Tuesday after failing to recover from injury.

Two-time Olympic and reigning 200-metre world champion Veronica Campbell-Brown has been provisionally suspended after testing positive for a banned substance.

The world’s fastest man Usain Bolt will only compete in the 100 metres at the championship.

Bolt received a wild card entry for the 200 metres at the World Championship as the defending champion.

He will begin his campaign in the 100 metres on tomorrow’s second day.

Today’s opening day features three events in the morning session.

Those events are the heats of the men’s and women’s 400-metre hurdles along with preliminary rounds of the men’s 100-metre dash.

The afternoon session begins at 5 p.m. and features the heats of the men’s and women’s 400 metres along with another round in the men and women’s 100 metres.
