C. Everard Palmer's memorial service to be held today

A memorial service is to be held today in Canada for the life of well-known Jamaican author C. Everard Palmer.



Palmer died at his home in Mississauga, Ontario, on Sunday after collapsing.



The educator and former journalist at The Gleaner Company was born on October 15, 1930, in Kendal, Hanover.



Palmer wrote a number of children books as well as novels, which were mostly based on his life in rural Jamaica.



Works such as A Cow Called Boy, My Father, Sun-Sun Johnson and The Cloud with the Silver Lining are recommended texts for Caribbean Secondary Examination Council English Literature.



Among his awards are a Certificate of Merit by the Jamaican Reading Association for contribution to Jamaican Children Literature and Silver Musgrave Medal for Literature from the Institute of Jamaica.
