The police say they are questioning one woman and eight men in relation to yesterday’s robbery, kidnapping and subsequent fatal shooting of a district constable in Wakefield, Trelawny.

The policeman has been identified as Juvan Lisle who was assigned to the St Catherine North Police Division.

Investigators say members of the Caribbean Search Centre have been called in to help in the hunt for weapons, which investigators believe may have been left behind by the culprits.

Reports indicate that about 10 o’clock yesterday morning a group of men in a motor car went to a house in the Wakefield community where they held up and robbed the occupants and kidnapped one of them.

A car that was parked at house was also robbed.

The police were called and the vehicle later found abandoned in the area.

The police say three ballistic vests were found inside one of the vehicles and the man who was kidnapped later surfaced unharmed.

The policemen reportedly continued to search the surrounding areas when they reportedly came under gunfire. In the aftermath, the district constable was found with gunshot wounds. The others escaped.

The police man died in hospital.

The police say the regulation numbers printed on the vests which were found inside the vehicle corresponded with those of the three policemen attached to the St. Catherine North Division.
