Jamaicans have been spared a further increase in the amount they pay in property taxes for this financial year.

In its 2012-2013 annual report the Land Ministry disclosed that the Cabinet has agreed to push back the implementation of the impending new property valuation assessment to the 2014-2015 financial year.

Property taxes were increased in April as part of the government’s revenue measures.

The Ministry revealed that the assessment for the new Valuation Poll is more than 90 per cent complete and it is expected that notices of valuation will begin to be distributed to property owners in November.

The last land revaluation exercise was done more than 10 years ago.
