Prepare Portmore youth for jobs - PM
Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller is urging the Portmore Municipal Council to ensure that it develop plans that will allow residents to benefit from some of the major investment projects being undertaken in the municipality.
The suggestion by Simpson comes in reference to the proposed Caymanas Logistics Centre, which will be developed as part of the Logistics hub, and the proposed 750,000 square foot technology park in Naggo Head.
Speaking on Thursday after she was presented with the keys to Portmore, Simpson Miller said the projects had the potential to employ some 13,000 persons.
As a result, she urged the Council to put plans in place to ensure that its residents can take advantage of opportunities that will become available.
She says the Council should start by preparing young people to acquire the skills training and certification necessary to take up the jobs created through these projects.
The Prime Minister was honoured for her role in helping Portmore achieve municipal status in 2003 when she was then the Minister of Local Government and Community Development.
