The Meteorological Service has issued a Severe Weather Alert effective until 5 a.m. on Sunday.

A Tropical Wave is west of Jamaica and is influencing the weather over the island.

Satellite imagery and radar reports indicate an area of heavy showers and thunderstorms just southwest of the island.

These showers and thunderstorms are expected to drift towards the north throughout this evening and should impact sections of western and central parishes over the next 6 to 12 hours.

Fishers and other small craft operators should exercise caution as strong, gusty winds are expected in the vicinity of showers and thunderstorms.

The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the situation.
