Caribbean Congress of Labour calls for resumption of trade union movement

Published:Wednesday | July 3, 2013 | 12:47 PM

The Caribbean Congress of Labour wants regional governments to restart the Caribbean trade union movement.

President of the congress David Massiah, says he has no knowledge of why the Caribbean leaders had stopped the meetings.

However, he says it is important for the labour movement to be reengaged given the changes in the global environment.

According to the Caribbean Media Corporation Massiah believes that a reengagement would lead to a lessening of the adversarial role of the regional labour movement and the harmonisation of labour laws.

Massiah says he would like meetings with the regional leaders to begin now.
