28 firearms, 1,428 rounds of ammo seized during stop and search activities this week
The police are crediting stop and search activities for the seizure of firearms ammunition since the beginning of the week.
The police say 28 firearms and 1,428 rounds of ammunition were seized in eight different exercises, five were during stop and search activities using the Firearms Act.
They say the seizures have led to the arrest of several individuals who have been charged, some of whom are known repeat offenders who were reporting on condition of bail for major crimes including murders, shootings and robberies.
They further say stop and search activities is to date, one of the most effective and successful crime fighting initiatives that form a critical component of the police’s sworn mandate to maintain law and order, prevent and detect crime and to protect the people of Jamaica.
