A September 27 mention date has been set for a Jamaican couple on human trafficking charges.

Fisherman, Rohan Ebanks and his common law wife, Venoshia Reeves, are accused of enslaving a 14-year-old Haitian girl.

Both appeared before Supreme Court judge, Leighton Pusey.

Reeves received an extension of her bail while a bail application is to be made for Ebanks before July 31.

It is alleged that in 2010, Ebanks went to Haiti, saw the girl and got her mother’s permission to take the child to Jamaica with an offer for a better life.

Its further alleged the girl was locked up in the couple’s house after being taken to Jamaica and was forced to do domestic work for almost two years.

It is alleged that Ebanks raped the girl on one occasion.

Last November, the girl reportedly managed to escape and with assistance of citizens, a report was made to the police.
