Minister of National Security Peter Bunting has announced that as all female juveniles have been removed from the Horizon Adult Remand Centre as of yesterday.

He reportedly received this information from the new Commissioner of Corrections, Jevene Bent, during the final leg of her tour of correctional facilities in St Elizabeth and Manchester.

The announcement follows Bunting's commitment to have a complete separation of juveniles from adults by the end of this year.

During his Sectoral Debate presentation in June, Bunting committed to having the five remaining juveniles in the facility removed, noting that the number had been dramatically reduced from 30 in June 2012.

Yesterday, Bunting also disclosed that the number of female juveniles at Fort Augusta has been reduced to 39, down from 44 at the time of his presentation in Parliament and down from 74 in the previous year.
