UPDATE: Constable's cause of death confirmed

Published:Saturday | July 6, 2013 | 5:54 PM

The police constable whose decomposing body was found at his St Catherine home this morning died from a gunshot wound to the mouth.

The Constabulary Communications Network (CCN) says this was confirmed by a post mortem conducted at the scene.

CCN says the Constable’s service revolver was also found at the scene with five live rounds and one spent shell.

The dead constable, 22-year-old Richard Laing, was a member of the Island Special Constabulary Force and was attached to the Darling Street Police Station.

It is reported that Laing’s body was found inside his Eltham Vista home in Spanish Town by neighbours who became curious after not seeing him for several days.

CCN says detectives from the Spanish Town Criminal Investigation Branch are probing the circumstances surrounding the constable’s death.
