EGYPT: Mohamed El Baradei appointed interim PM

Published:Saturday | July 6, 2013 | 6:17 PM

Liberal politician Mohamed El Baradei has been appointed as Egypt’s interim Prime Minister.

The appointment was announced today followed crisis talks led by President Adly Mahmud Mansour.

El Baradei, who is a former head of the United Nation's nuclear watchdog agency, was scheduled to be sworn in today.

This latest development comes three days after the Egyptian army removed the country’s Islamist leader Mohammed Morsi amid growing nationwide unrest.

However, the move has triggered mass unrest by supporters of Morsi.
