ATHLETICS: Traves Smikle in action at World University Games today

Traves Smikle will be the final Jamaican in action at the 2013 World University Games in Kazan, Russia when he takes the field on today’s last day of track and field.



Smikle will compete in the final of the men’s discus, which starts at 9:40 this morning Jamaica time.



Smikle qualified for the final after finishing third in the qualifying round on Wednesday with an effort of 58.96 metres.



Shaneika Thomas failed in her bid to add to Jamaica’s medal on day 6.



Thomas could only manage sixth place in the women’s triple jump final with an effort of 13.53 metres.



As expected Ekaterina Koneva of Russia took the gold medal by leaping 14.82 metres, a university record.



The Jamaicans have so far collected four medals – comprising three bronze and a silver.
