Drain cleaning budget woefully inadequate

Members of Parliament's Public Administration and Appropriations Committee (PAAC) say the $31 million approved by the Government to clean drains and gullies was woefully inadequate.

During a discussion with technocrats from the Ministry of Transport and Works in Gordon House on Wednesday, the committee urged permanent secretary Audrey Sewell to source more funding from the Ministry of Finance.

Sewell told PAC members that the government could reallocate resources to carry out drain and gully cleaning exercises.

The meeting was adjourned early to allow Sewell to hold dialogue with the finance ministry and for the team from the National Works Agency to put plans in place for any eventuality.
