MIT commended for nabbing cop killer
Superintendent in charge of the Major Investigation Task Force (MIT), Michael Phipps and his team are being commended for the part they played in securing the conviction of a man accused of killing a policeman in 2007.
On Thursday, Christopher Thomas was found guilty by a 12-member Jury in the Home Circuit Court of killing Detective Corporal Dave Daley.
Detective Corporal Daley, who was formerly attached to the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse, was attacked and killed in Duhaney Park, St Andrew, on February 12, 2007.
Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of crime, Carl Williams, says the prompt and excellent demonstration of investigative skills by the MIT team resulted in the arrest and charge of Thomas on February 20, 2007.
He says the conviction is an indication that with proper and diligent investigations, convictions can be secured and criminals brought to justice for their heartless actions.
Thomas is to be sentenced on September 20.
