LOS ANGELES (AP) — More protests are planned across California after the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

Protesters took the streets in Los Angeles, Oakland and San Francisco following the verdict being read in a Florida courtroom late Saturday. The demonstrations were largely peaceful but there were small street fires and broken windows in Oakland.

In Los Angeles, police officers were put on tactical alert, but there were no reports of any arrests. Police in San Francisco escorted protesters as they marched on the city's Mission District.

Protests were expected again Sunday in the three cities as well as in San Diego.
