UPDATE: Ato Boldon cautions athletes on supplements

Published:Monday | July 15, 2013 | 2:58 PM

Retired Trinidadian sprinter Ato Boldon thinks track and field athletes should stay away from taking supplements.

Boldon made the comment following the revelation Sunday that former 100-metre record holder Asafa Powell and his MVP teammate Sherone Simpson tested positive for the banned stimulant oxilofrine at the Jamaican championships last month.

Boldon, now a top track and field broadcaster, says many athletes take supplements because they feel it helps them.

However, he says the time has come for athletes to realize that the risks associated with supplements are greater than the benefit they will get from it.

Earlier, Boldon was incorrectly quoted as saying a high percentage of track and field athletes are taking banned supplements.
