Cop on manslaughter charge to be sentenced today

Published:Friday | July 19, 2013 | 9:24 AM

The St Ann Circuit Court is expected today to sentence the St Mary police constable who shot and killed his common-law wife in May.

Sentencing was put off on June 21, after Mario Dixon's attorney asked the Court for more time to call character witnesses.

Dixon was originally charged with murder but pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of manslaughter.

It is reported that on May 14, the policeman and his common-law wife Jenese Burrell had an argument at their home in Islington, St Mary.

It is further reported that during the altercation Dixon pulled a gun and opened fire shooting Burrell twice in the head.

She died on the spot.
