OUR gives mid-Sept deadline to reveal which entity will build new plant
Energy Minister Phillip Paulwell has welcomed an announcement from the Office of Utilities Regulations (OUR) that the country will know by mid-September which entity will be granted approval to build the 360-megawatt power plant.
Addressing yesterday’s Jamaica Energy Council meeting, the OUR revealed that it expects, by July 29, to receive bids on the project from five entities.
Evaluation of bids will be done by the end of August.
In the meantime, the OUR says applications for power wheeling will commence as of mid-August.
Power wheeling is the use of the Jamaica Public Service electric grid to transmit power from a self-generating entity in one location to other locations owned by the same entity.
The self-generating entities will be required to pay a fee to the JPS for use of its grid.
