The Road Safety Unit in the Ministry of Transport is urging motorists to avoid excessive drinking as the number of entertainment activities increase for the summer period.

According to the Road Safety Unit at this time of the year, there is usually increased alcohol consumption.

However, the Road Safety Unit is reminding people that if they intend to drink they should have a designated driver.

It is also warning motorists against the use of cellular phones while driving as this may impair their judgment.

The Road Safety Unit says the police will be extremely vigilant and will be clamping down on persons who break the rules of the road and put other road users at risk.
