Discharged sugar factory guards to continue protest
Jerome Reynolds, Staff Reporter
Disgruntled security guards who were employed to the Pan Caribbean Sugar Company have vowed to continue their protest action until they are reinstated.
The workers were sent home on discretionary leave on Sunday by the company.
However, the security guards and their unions believe that is only a step towards full dismissal.
The former guards are represented by the National Workers’ Union (NWU), the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union and the University and Allied Workers Union.
NWU President Vincent Morrison says the situation remains the same despite a meeting at the Ministry of Labour yesterday.
Morrison says the management reiterated that it would not accede to calls from the unions for the discretionary leave to be withdrawn.
He says as such the workers will continue their action.
