Clarendon police to charge five for gun, drug offences
Police from Crofts Hill and May Pen in Clarendon are laying charges against five persons who were arrested during stop and search operations in the parish this morning.
The five have been arrested for breaches of the Firearms, Dangerous Drugs and Proceeds of Crime Acts.
Two illegal firearms, a sum of cash and a quantity of marijuana have been seized in the Kellits and Toll Gate areas of the parish.
Police reports are that in the first incident, which occurred about one this morning, the Crofts Hill Police were on an operation when they searched a motor vehicle occupied by two men and a woman, a 9mm Berretta pistol containing three rounds was found.
Half an hour later, the May Pen Police, who were also conducting a similar exercise in the Toll Gate area, signalled the driver of a Nissan AD motor car to stop.
However, he refused to comply, sped away and subsequently crashed into a retaining wall.
A search of the vehicle and its two occupants was conducted, a homemade firearm, US$3,000, J$30,000 and the illicit drugs were found.
Their identities are being withheld.
