The Housing Ministry has written off the mortgages for 50 Jamaicans under a special debt forgiveness programme to close out the jubilee year.

The beneficiaries received their titles at a special ceremony yesterday.

The programme is called the Jubilee ‘50 for 50’ Housing Initiative.

Under the Housing Initiative, beneficiaries had to be 50 years or older, has an account balance less than $50,000, and their account should not be inactive for more than 50 weeks.

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, who delivered the main address, noted that her administration has a firm commitment to provide thousands of land titles in the hands of Jamaicans.

The government is targeting to transfer 7,000 land titles this fiscal year.
