Roger Clarke joins reparation call

The Agriculture Minister Roger Clarke is supporting the call by Opposition Member of Parliament Mike Henry in calling for reparation from England and other European countries for the period the enslaved Jamaicans.



After delivering the main address during Sunday’s launch of the Global Trade Exchange Symposium in Denbigh, Clarendon, Clarke then turned to the Central Clarendon MP, Henry, and assured him of his vote should the matter go before Parliament.



The Government minister also said the value of reparation must be of worth.



Clarke said the sugar sector has benefited, though small, from some form of reparation from Europe through favourable price cuts by Europe.



In her Emancipation Day Message, Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, said the Caribbean should explore all avenues related to reparations and urged the descendants of former slave owners to do the right thing.
