Cassia Park by-election: Almost 15 per cent voter turnout up to noon

Almost 15 per cent of the 10,575 registered voters in the Cassia Park Electoral Division have voted in the by-election, as at 11 a.m. today.

The People’s National Party’s Sheryn Bromfield is going up against the Jamaica Labour Party’s Beverly Prince after the seat became vacant following the death of Bromfield’s mother Cynthia Burrell.

Director of Elections Orrette Fisher said voting has been slow in most stations, as 1,530 electors have cast ballots.

Three of the 41 polling stations have had more than 30 per cent voter turnout, while in most stations less than 20 per cent of the number of registered voters have voted so far.

The seat became vacant when sitting councilor Cynthia Burrell passed away earlier this year.
