Security in Haiti has improved, says PM

Published:Friday | August 9, 2013 | 8:28 AM

Haitian authorities are reporting that security across the country has improved in recent years.

They say this is due to efforts made to reinforce, train and equip the more than 10,00 officers who make up the Haitian National Police.

Haitian Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, says the country is much safer today even though it continues to face significant challenges in terms of the funding needed to provide more adequate resources to the police.

He says many policemen do not have a gun or have one that is not fit for their mission.
