Australia have taken charge of the fourth Ashes Test against England at Chester-le-Street with the host struggling on 199 for eight at Sports Time on the opening day.

Off-spinner Nathan Lyon has secured four of the eight wickets to fall as England slipped from 155 for four at tea despite captain Alastair Cook’s painstaking half-century.

Opener Cook scored 51 from 164 balls, with Jonathan Trott the next best scorer with 49 from 60 balls.

Lyon has so far picked up four for 37 from 18 overs.

England have already retained the Ashes with a 2-0 lead in the series.

The third match ended in a draw.
