Redistribution of teachers has started, says minister

Education Minister Ronald Thwaites says the promised redistribution of teachers within the education system has already started.

He says come September the country can expect to see teachers being more efficiently assigned.

Thwaites says the security of tenure granted to teachers under the Education Regulations will not prevent his ministry from doing what it must to ensure that teachers are placed in the right schools and areas where they were most needed.

During his contribution to the 2013-2014 Sectoral Debate, Thwaites argued that there needed to be legislative authority to transfer teachers from one school to another to meet the needs of students.

He said the regulations were being revised to eliminate certain restrictions as it relates to the hiring and placing of educators in primary and secondary schools.
