Williams-Mills, McPherson for 400m final

Jamaica’s Novlene Williams-Mills and Stephanie McPherson both held on to place third in their respective semi-finals of the women’s 400 metre to move on to the final tomorrow at 12:15 p.m.



However, the other quarter-miler Patricia Hall running in heat one did not fare as well, ending eighth in 52.62.



Williams-Mills running in heat two, clocked 50.34 to qualify as one of the fastest losers behind automatic qualifiers, Britain’s Christine Ohurugu (49.75) and America’s Natasha Hastings (49.94).



In heat three McPherson ran 49.99 to end third, behind America’s Francena McCorory's personal best 49.86 and Russia's Antonina Krisvoshapka's who also clocked 49.99.
