Published:Sunday | August 11, 2013 | 12:04 PM

The acting head of the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) is urging school administrators to use the remaining portion of the summer holidays to ensure that their institutions are hurricane ready.

Richard Thompson says schools should ensure that they have suitable plans in place in the event of a storm or other emergencies.

He says administrators can contact ODPEM for assistance in developing these plans.

Thompson says now is the time for schools to take the necessary precautions to safeguard equipment and property.
