JTB hosts Jamaica House in Moscow

Jamaica has been seeking to capitalise on the buzz being created by its athletes in Russia with the hosting of what it has dubbed Jamaica House Moscow.

The initiative follows a similar effort mounted at the 2012 Olympics in London and seeks to boost tourist arrivals from Russia and Eastern Europe.

Jamaica Tourist Board says Jamaica House Moscow is the hub of all things Jamaican and is housed at the Radio City Sports Bar.

It says live screenings of the races help to lure in over 200 patrons each day for an introduction to Jamaican culture, cuisine and the tourism product

Director of Tourism, John Lynch says the potential of the emerging market in Eastern Europe cannot be ignored noting that Jamaica welcomed 6,150 Russians in the first half of 2013 compared to 1,701 for the entire 2012.

The Government spent almost $140 million to host Jamaica House London last year.

However, in its media release yesterday it did not state how much the Moscow staging would cost.
