St Kitts PM says same-sex debate goes beyond Parliament

Published:Friday | August 16, 2013 | 9:59 AM

St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas says the introduction of legislation allowing same-sex marriage in the twin-island federation goes beyond a debate in the Parliament and should include the views of all stakeholders.

Dr Douglas says the issue will generate national debate and groups such as the Church will want to have a say.

The Prime Minister says his country should not be guided by only what is happening in North America and in Europe, but to some extent what have been cultural norms in the Caribbean society.
