Shaw to make JLP leadership announcement 'in due course'

Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) deputy leader Audley Shaw says in due course he will be making an announcement on whether he will challenge Andrew Holness for leadership of the party.

The JLP Area Council Three head says he would not be making comments at this time on reports that he is considering or being pushed to challenge Holness at November’s general conference.

Speculation of a Shaw challenge increased following the cancellation of Monday night’s Standing Committee meeting in the aftermath of last week’s chaotic session.

Political watchers have said the JLP leadership was moving to stave off another disruptive showdown.

On Monday, JLP general secretary Horace Chang indicated that he would be holding discussions with Shaw.

However he has not revealed what will form the basis for the discussions.

Meanwhile, in a Facebook post on August 14, Holness declared that he is a believer in the democratic process but called for a rejection of those who want to create disunity to suit their own self-interest.
