Pearnel Charles has ‘no intention of accommodating’ a Holness challenge announcement tomorrow

Member of Parliament for North Central Clarendon, Pearnel Charles, says he is unaware of any plans for Jamaica Labour Party deputy leader, Audley Shaw, to announce that he will challenge Andrew Holness for leadership of the party at a meeting in his constituency tomorrow.

Speculation of an Audley Shaw-challenge has been growing especially following the cancellation of Monday night’s Standing Committee meeting in the aftermath of last week’s chaotic session where the matter was discussed.

On Thursday Shaw told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre he will be making an announcement on whether he will challenge Holness in due course.

Shaw reportedly met with Holness yesterday to speak with him on the matter, but neither party has commented on the details of the talks.

Following that meeting it was reported that Shaw would announce his candidacy at a meeting in Charles’ constituency tomorrow.

However, Charles says he is organising no such meeting and has sought to make it clear that he fully supports the current leader.

He says he has no intention of accommodating any meeting in his constituency for Shaw to announce a bid for leadership.

Tomorrow’s area council meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Chapelton All-Age School.
