Published:Sunday | August 25, 2013 | 12:16 PM

A third person has died as a result of injuries received in a four-vehicle crash on the Wilderness main road in St Mary about 5 p.m. yesterday.

The name of the person, a male, has not yet been disclosed. The names of the other deceased persons are also being withheld.

The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN)says investigators from the Accident Investigation and Reconstructive Unit were up to news time still examining evidence to determine the exact cause of the crash. They have confirmed that four vehicles — a Honda Civic motor car, a Suzuki Swift motor car, a Toyota Hiace minibus and a Leyland truck were involved.

It is believed the Honda motor car collided head-on with the Toyota Hiace minibus. The minibus then reportedly ran off the road and into a ditch, while the Honda then crashed into the Suzuki Swift, which in turn crashed into the Leyland truck, which was parked along the roadway.

The 15 persons who were aboard the minibus sustained injuries and were taken to hospital, where two of them, a man and a woman, succumbed to their injuries.

The driver of the Honda motor car, who was alone in his vehicle, also sustained injuries and died while being treated at hospital.

The two persons who were in the Suzuki Swift motor car were admitted at hospital.

No one was in the parked truck at the time of the crash.
