Hylton to give update on logistics hub today

Published:Friday | August 30, 2013 | 9:09 AM

Minister of Industry Investment and Commerce, Anthony Hylton, is expected today to update the nation on issues related to the Logistics Hub.

He has invited members of the media to his ministry’s offices for a briefing at 11 a.m.

Today’s press briefing comes a day after journalists were ejected from a meeting on the logistics hub project to which the ministry had invited the media.

The move came at a time when controversy has been heating up over the Chinese proposal to build the logistics hub on the Goat Islands, which is part of an environmentally protected area off the St Catherine coast.

The ministry yesterday explained that the invitation had been sent out in error.

It said the meeting was intended to be a private one with members of the Jamaica Exporters’ Association.

In a statement last night on the matter, Hylton said the ministry wished to maintain its cordial relationship with the media as a functioning and robust media is essential to democracy.
