Cuban light bulb trial to resume today

Published:Tuesday | September 3, 2013 | 7:44 AM

The Cuban light bulb trial is scheduled to resume in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court today.

The trial which was last mentioned in Court on May 20, is expected to last for five weeks.

Junior Energy Minister Kern Spencer and his co-accused Colleen Wright had their bails extended.

They are facing several counts of corruption and money laundering.

Spencer and Wright are accused of benefiting improperly from the Cuban light bulb project in 2007.

They have been before the court since 2008.

However, the trial has been stalled for more than a year because of legal wranglings between the presiding magistrate Judith Pusey and Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn.
