Jamaica’s men basketball team has been drawn in Group ‘A’ for the second phase of the 2013 FIBA Americas Championships in Carecas, Venezuela, after narrowly making it to that stage.

The Jamaicans secured a place in the second round after edging Brazil 78-76 in their final preliminary round game last night.

The victory represents the only one for Jamaica from four games.

Jamaica have been drawn alongside Puerto Rico, Canada and Uruguay in the second round.

Jamaica lost to all those teams in the preliminary round.

However, Jamaica will not face the teams in the group as the second round facilitates cross-the-zone actions.

The Jamaicans will start their second round campaign against Group ‘B’ team Dominican Republic on Thursday.

Group ‘B’ also includes hosts Venezuela, Argentina and Mexico.

The championships will qualify the four semi-finalists to the 2014 FIBA World Championships in Spain.
