25-man Reggae Boyz squad for match against Panama chosen
Jamaica's national senior men's football coach, Winfried 'Winnie' Schafer has chosen 25 players who will travel to Panama tomorrow morning to represent Jamaica in the upcoming CONCACAF World Cup qualifier match against Panama this Friday.
Schafer, was appointed last July following the resignation of Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore after four consecutive losses in this hexagonal stage.
Twenty-seven players vied for a spot on the team and 25 were chosen after a practice session earlier tonight at the Stadium East grounds.
Jermaine 'Tuffy' Anderson, who won the leading goalscorer award in the local Red Stripe Premier League in back-to-back seasons, but was ignored by Whitmore, has been chosen for the team.
Coming back into the squad are Marlon King, Chris Humphrey and Luton Shelton, who were dropped by Whitmotre for various reasons.
Wes Morgan, captain of English Championship team Leicester City and Shaun Cummings of Reading are the only newcomers in the Reggae Boyz squad.
Cut from the squad are: Adrian Reid, Wolry Wolfe, and Dwayne Miller who is injured and has been replaced by Richard McCallum.
The match should kick off at 9 p.m. inside the Rommel Fernandez Stadium.
