FOOTBALL: Humble Lion beat Cavalier in Flow Champions Cup

Premiership outfit Humble Lion was among the teams that advanced to the second round of the FLOW Champions Cup Knockout Football Competition which returned this season after a one-year absence.



The Geoffery Maxwell-coach Humble Lion team got their 2013 campaign off to a good start with a 2-1 victory over Cavalier in the only all-Premiership battle on Wednesday.



Roberto Fletcher handed the Clarendon-based team a second minute lead at the Effortville Community Centre in Clarendon, but Claudio Blackburn replied for Cavalier seven minutes later.



In the 67th minute, Amado McLeod restored Humble Lion’s lead to give his team all three points and knocked Cavalier out. Axum Sports Club and Barbican also advanced to round two.



Axum Sports Club beat Highgate United 2-nil at the Gray’s Inn Complex, while Barbican secured a 3-2 penalty victory over Exchange United after the teams had battled to a 1-all tie after full and extra time. That game was played at the Barbican field.



Another six matches are scheduled for today.



The competition comprises the 14 parish knockout champions and the 12 Premier League teams.
