Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Member of Parliament, Daryl Vaz, has labelled as unfortunate statements by party leader, Andrew Holness, suggesting that Audley Shaw’s backers are political lightweights.

Shaw, who is a deputy leader, has indicated he is contemplating challenging Holness for the leadership of the party and is to make an announcement on the matter on Sunday.

Speaking on All Angles on Television Jamaica last night, Holness seemed to dismiss the political credentials of the persons who have publicly come out in support of Shaw.

Vaz says the statement by Holness is unfortunate.

He also says it runs counter to Holness’ utterances in which he has urged members of the party to desist from making negative comments about each other.

Shaw is to use a media broadcast on Sunday to announce his decision on whether to challenge Holness.
