Shaw's consultations with JLP delegates a waste of time - Martin Henry

Published:Sunday | September 15, 2013 | 12:25 PM

Political commentator Martin Henry has described as a waste of time the move by Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) leader aspirant Audley Shaw to undertake a three-week consultation with delegates.

Henry, who is also a communication specialist and lecturer at the University of Technology, says Shaw should have simply made his intentions known via a national broadcast from the beginning.

Shaw will announce in a public broadcast this evening whether he will be challenging JLP leader, Andrew Holness, for the leadership of the party.

However, Henry says Shaw made the right decision to make his announcement via a national broadcast, as it will provide a platform that a party meeting would not have otherwise allowed him.

He says using a national broadcast to make his announcement also helps to confirm that Shaw has the backing of the party's financiers.

Shaw's national broadcast is scheduled for 7:00 this evening.
