BASKETBALL: Jamaica's women gearing up for FIBA Championships in Mexico

Jamaica women's basketball squad is now getting ready to travel to Mexico for the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship for women in Xalapa.



The championship begins on Saturday with Jamaica starting against Cuba.



The tournament runs until September 28.



Jamaica and Cuba are drawn in Group ‘A’ alongside Canada, Chile and Venezuela.



Group ‘B’ comprises Brazil, who have won four of the last FIBA Americas Championships for Women, Puerto Rico, Argentina, hosts Mexico and the Dominican Republic.



Simone Edwards who had a successful career with the Seattle Storm in the USA will lead Jamaica.



Only three local-based players are selected in the 10-member squad. Those players are Zandria Dell, Ladonna Lamouth and Sasha Dixon.



The tournament qualifies three teams to the FIBA World Championship for Women in Turkey next year.
